I have always detested the racism of the far-right, and will go on fighting them, but as a committed socialist, I abhor the fact that some left-wing people are mistakenly allying themselves with Islamic groups. It is right to protect minorities from abuse, but at the same time it is hypocrisy to become bedfellows with any religious organization. All religion is to some degree fascistic, and having studied Islam for some years, I am convinced that it is itself a virulently fascist movement, its core ethos being to subjugate all unbelievers by whatever force necessary. It also has the aim of destroying democracy in favour of ‘Theocracy’, and to wipe homosexuality from the face of the earth - amongst other things. As a strong atheist, I despise all religion as an unfortunate evil, and certainly regard it as something that should be kept completely out of politics.
